Darryl Cordell

Darryl Frederick Cordell, son of Carolyn Jean Cordell and George H. Cordell Jr. was born on December 11, 1954 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He went to sleep in Jesus on Monday, July 24, 2023.

It was a happy home where Darryl thrived and received all the attention of an only child for 11 years, which is until the arrival of his little brother Bryan and the arrival of his baby sister Lori . Darryl was a light in the family and in the home filling it with laughter. That joy and laughter was something I think we can all attest to. He was reared at Shiloh Seventh-day Adventist Church where he formulated lifelong friendships that existed throughout his life. Coming from a Christian home meant that having a Christian Education was essential to his development and he graduated in the class of 1972 from Spring Valley Academy in Centerville, Ohio. It was while there that he met who would become his future wife Joy Annette Dickerson. After many years apart, Darryl and Joy rekindled their high school love story and married on March 31, 2013, in Huntsville, AL, and enjoyed their lives together until Joy went to sleep in Jesus on April 23, 2017.

While going to school and living in the Dayton area, he formed friendships that turned into bringing additional brothers into the family. John Taylor and Frankie Dickerson shared his first apartment with him on Alex Bell Road, and that bond was solidified for life. Garrett Lockett became a brother when he moved in with our family on one of the occasions when Darryl returned home.

After graduating, Darryl took a position at Kettering Hospital where he began his lifelong service in healthcare. Darryl later became a certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) where he saved many lives. His medical career broadened where he would become an orthopedic technician working in many hospitals in the Dayton and Cincinnati areas. He found his life's purpose and many friends while serving at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, Miami Valley Hospital, and other facilities. Darryl not only set bones but mended the hearts of all he met.

Family was the most important to him and nothing brought him more joy than becoming a father to Darryl Jr., Nichelle, and Lea through his union with long time partner Michelle Kronenberger. Darryl's joy increased when he became the proud grandfather to Kierre, Mia, and Dexter. They are his greatest accomplishments.

Darryl spent countless hours on visits to Huntsville, Alabama where he visited his mom, dad, brother, sister, and nieces for holidays and almost every annual Alumni weekend at Oakwood University. It was during one of these visits that he ran into his childhood friend Shelly Phipps-Rivera and their friendship blossomed. Darryl and Shelly rekindled their friendship back in 2017, they were inseparable. They did everything together and their deep love and respect for each other was evident in everything they did.

Shelly remained with him until his untimely death. Darryl loved life and lived it to it's fullest. He modeled for all that he loved how to live with no regrets. His love of the Cincinnati Bengals provided many opportunities to bond with those he loved the most....... his entire family.

He was preceded in death by his mother Carolyn J. Cordell and Brennan Pearl Sr, his grandparents Dorothy Dillard, Walter Dillard, George H. Cordell Sr., and Pearl Cordell.

He leaves to cherish his legacy of love: Father George H. Cordell. Three children: Darryl Cordell Jr., Nichelle Carroll (Toneisha), Lea Kronenberger. Three grandchildren, Kierre Carroll, Mia Cordell, and Dexter Cordell. brothers Bryan Cordell (Loutrina Staley), Brennan Isome-Pearl sisters, Lori Cordell-Meikle, Brenda Pearl, Lakitha Pearl (KiKi), Alesa (Lisa) Shamel, Teshona Stubblefield and Lafara Carter. Uncles Gary Cordell (Claudia), Larry Cordell (Selma). Aunt's Sharon Cordell-Johnson, and Sandra Cordell-O'Neal (Terry), his Girlfriend Shelley Phipps-Rivera, and a large host of cousins, nieces and extended family members and friends.
