Richard Young

Richard Young, age 89 of Farmersville, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2023. Dick grew up on Wayne Avenue in Dayton and he was stationed in the US Army as an MP in Germany in the early 1950s. After his discharge he began a 20 year career with the city of Dayton Police Department earning the rank of sergeant. While working for the police he and his wife Ruth operated a small farm in Farmersville. After retiring from the police using degrees in education from the University of Dayton and Xavier, he began another career teaching law enforcement at several career technical schools. After his second retirement he and Ruth began a 5 year journey camping around the United States. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Luvena Young. Survivors are his devoted wife of 68 years, Ruth (Powelson) Young; children, David (Jana) Young, and daughter, Bev (Roger) Cox; grandchildren, Kim, David Young Jr., Kevin Cox, Doug Cox, and Barbie Stumpf, and 14 great grandchildren. The family would like to give special recognition to his caregivers at Enclave of Springboro and Day City Hospice. Visitation will be on Friday, January 6, 2023 11am-12pm at the Arpp, Root & Carter Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 12pm with interment immediately following at Holp Cemetery, Farmersville.
