Smith, Sandra Kay, age 64 of Germantown passed away Sunday, January 10, 2016. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Colleen (Barkley) Owens. She leaves behind her husband Anthony Smith, two sons Chris (Jennifer) Smith and Aaron (Emily) Smith, stepdaughter Mardi (Curtis) Humphreys, sister Linda (Mark) Bingman, aunt Barbara Cross, niece Holly (Sean) Brannan, grandson Tyler Smith, granddaughter Casey Humphreys, grandnephew and grandniece Jalen and Brooklynn, her dear friend Julie Griffey, Red Hatter sisters, West Virginia friends and extended family. Sandy was the creative type; when she wasn’t writing and editing the Dayton Dog Training Newsletter she was making charm bracelets, researching genealogy and was a talented woodcrafter and painter. She never let an opportunity to dance pass her by. She also volunteered at Valley View Middle School helping to manage their early computer labs. At home, she was nicknamed “The General” because “The General” takes orders from no one. (She would roll her eyes at that statement.) She will be remembered for her big and generous heart, often giving to the Humane Society and Salvation Army. As dogs were a consistent force in Sandy’s life, her two papillons Cookie and Scout, are left to wonder if mom is ever coming home. Little do they know, she’s already there. The family will receive friends on Wednesday January 13, 2016 from 6-8pm at the Arpp & Root Funeral Home, 29 N. Main St. Germantown OH. Burial at Germantown Union Cemetery with private services. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dayton Humane Society 1661 Nicholas Rd. Dayton, OH 45417.
