Victoria Alicia Garcia Thompson

Victoria Alicia Garcia Thompson was born December 17, 1923 in Cienfuegos, Cuba. She was the fourth of seven children born to Maria Victoria D’Abrigeon and Jose Manuel Garcia. Her siblings: Jose Manuel, Jr. (Elsa), Raul (Iraida), Ramon Enrique (Lily), Pablo (Dalia), Quetica (Antonio) and Roberto (Noelia) all loved her dearly. She was married to Dale Chambers Thompson of Germantown, Ohio for more than 25 years. Although they did not have children of their own, in 1959 they welcomed with open arms and cared for the MANY nieces and nephews who found their way to Germantown, Ohio from Cuba. In Ohio, ‘Aunt Vicky’ was much beloved by many – the Thompson siblings embraced her: Mary (Ted), Warren (Dorothy), Martha (Bruce), Cora (George), June (Roy), Jane (Morris) and Elnor (Howard). Between her 6 siblings and Dale’s 7 siblings, the list of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews is extensive – and she was spoiled by many!
As a young woman, Victoria worked for General Motors in Cuba, and at their request was sent to Dayton, Ohio to learn English. She spent time at Frigidaire where she met June Hocker, which led to meeting Dale. Vicky worked many years and retired from Dayton Power and Light. In 1984 Dale passed away and Victoria moved to Miami, FL to be close to her siblings. However, she always stated that upon her passing, she would like to be laid to rest at home in Germantown, OH – next to her beloved Dale.
She passed away on September 1, 2023, just shy of celebrating her 100th birthday. We will remember her love of elephants (with the trunk up!) and her ability to find humor in everything. No doubt she is singing, dancing, celebrating and ordering a Manhattan somewhere!
